Welcome all brides to the Bellamme Blog! Whether you’re a new reader, a dedicated Bellamme follower, or just happened upon this page, we are so excited to have you here!
Today we’re unpacking just how surprising finding your dress can be. Which brings us to…your first time trying on bridal gowns.
Ahead of your first appointment, it’s totally natural to have a clear vision of what you want. Afterall, you’ve been dressing yourself for years… you know what you like. However, one of the most common elements of the bridal experience is surprise. Brides often fall in love with a dress that is completely different from what they expected. When that happens, it can sometimes feel disorienting. You might be confused or even a little shocked that your original idea hasn’t gone to plan.
That initial surge of wedding excitement leads to spending a lot of time scrolling and researching online. So, it makes sense that a very specific picture quickly builds up. While social media can be a great source of inspiration, it can also create something that we like to call ‘Dress Blindness’. When this happens it suddenly becomes hard to see the forest through the trees. Every dress in every photo seems to lose its individual sparkle, but we can assure you that this is something most brides experience…you are not alone! That’s why it’s always good to remember that wedding dresses are not like your ordinary clothes, they’re an experience and one that needs to be had in person. As fabrics, silhouettes and details can all feel very different once they’re on.
This where being a little brave in your appointment will help. Your stylist may suggest a “wildcard”. A dress that’s a bit unexpected that you may not have chosen yourself, whilst still aligning with your preferences and personal style. Embracing this and being open to experimenting with something different is an exciting way to explore other avenues. It is important to remember that choosing your dress isn’t just about ticking boxes, it’s about how you feel.
Dress shopping should be exciting! Keeping an open mind takes the pressure off and lets you enjoy the process. Once those doors are open, dresses you might’ve never considered suddenly become options and you are set free to indulge in a whole new bridal chapter.
At the start of your appointment, you might be nervous…you might be overwhelmed…but embrace those feelings!
Trust in yourself, trust your stylist and enjoy every moment!
It’s all part of your bridal journey.
