What actually Happens When you Say…. YES to the dress!
Welcome back Brides…to the Bellamme Blog! This month we’re inviting you to step behind the scenes to find out the process of what really happens when you say YES to your dream dress. If you’re still in the searching for your dress phase, then what comes after you’ve found it is probably the last thing on your mind. We get that, but not so long from now you will be standing in the gown of your dreams, prosecco in hand, wondering “what happens now?”. We want you to be fully prepared for that moment!
So let’s imagine…
You’ve done it! You’ve gotten through the hard part of trying on and discovering what you love. Stood in your dream gown, after you’ve had your big ‘Yes to the dress’ moment and taken enough photos of yourself to start a gallery! The first step after you’ve said yes is to celebrate! Whether you want to scream, cry or have a moment of complete calm knowing that you’ve done it… this moment is worth savouring.

Take the photos, drink the bubbles and take a minute to embrace the people around you who helped you in your dress journey. Soak in the feeling of both excitement and relief as you realise that you have accomplished one of the biggest decisions of your wedding planning journey, and now it’s officially ready to celebrate!
Next comes an underrated step in the process, and that’s the sizing!
We know that now you’ve found your dress, you’ll never want to take it off…but slipping on one of our Bellamme robes and getting measured up is an important step in securing your dream gown. This part is all about trusting your stylist. At this stage we are choosing the best starting size, that means that your dress might not arrive fitting perfectly in every area and that’s completely normal!
That’s what alterations are for!
We will usually measure you around the bust, waist and hips, and your stylist will talk you through the whole process and how we choose the size that is best for you. Something really important to remember is that bridal sizing is nothing like high street sizing! If you’ve ever found yourself perplexed by two pairs of jeans in the same size, that somehow fit completely differently then you’ll know the feeling… and remember, our dresses come from all over the world! Each designer does things a little differently so don’t worry if the numbers come out a little different to what you’re used to. Our goal is to find you a dress that you feel comfortable and secure in, no matter what’s on the label.
Your stylist will then guide you through every part of your order form to make sure we’re happy with everything! From the chosen size, any customizations or adding a veil, this is where we make sure that we’ve got all those little details! Now it’s time to whip out those cameras again and take those coveted ‘I said yes to a Bellamme Bridal Dress’ photos. Yes we have the sign, and yes we move the furniture…we take it very seriously 😉
It might seem like all that’s left to do after this is wait, but now that you’ve chosen your dress, you can think about all the incredible ways that you might want to style it. Then when you come in for your collection, you’ll be even more excited as you’ll be one step closer to getting that full bridal picture! We know that the arrival time frame of six to nine months may seem like forever, but as you know in the world of bridal…everything is on fast forward!
Soon enough, you’ll be back in the boutique trying on YOUR dress and getting that special feeling all over again…but until we get to that point, you have an exciting few months ahead of you. Utilising that time to browse what you might love to pair with your gown builds the excitement even more!
Once you’ve collected your dress, you’ll soon be in with your seamstress! We suggest contacting one of our recommended seamstresses soon after you’ve chosen your dress. This way you can get booked in ahead of time, taking the pressure off of both you and your seamstress. These appointments are where your look really starts coming to life.
We always say that your dress collection is just ‘The next steps’ of your bridal look. You’ve got the dress, and now it’s time for her to be nipped and tucked until she fits you like a dream and is ready to wear on your special day!
We hope this little step by step has been helpful. It may even show any nervous or anxious brides out there that saying ‘Yes’ to the dress isn’t quite as scary as it may seem. You don’t have to do it on your own or walk through this in the dark, you will have us to hand hold you through the whole process of picking your dress, saying yes and coming back for your collection. We make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible…and also that it is incredibly exciting too!
